Make tracks to Riverbanks for Columbia’s longest running holiday
tradition as BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina presents the 28th
annual Lights Before Christmas at Riverbanks Zoo and Garden. Beginning
on Friday, November 20 through the end of December, the Zoo will
illuminate at 5:00pm each evening with nearly one million twinkling
lights and countless animated images. Guests are invited to meander
through the park while soaking in the sights and sounds of the holiday
season. On chilly nights, cozy up to the Jingle Bell bonfire—an ideal
retreat for toasting marshmallows or watching it snow. Riverbanks is the
only place in town where the flakes fall every night. In addition,
Santa Claus will be greeting ...guests at Santa’s Village starting at
6:00pm each evening through December 23. The Lights experience also
offers guests a variety of mouthwatering munchies (for an additional
charge). Flavorful favorites range from traditional funnel cakes to
cinnamon sugar pretzels and all-new biscuit cakes. Lights Before
Christmas will take place from 5:00pm to 9:00pm, November 20 through
December 30. Lights will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Admission is $10 for adults and $8 for children ages 2 to 12. Children under 2 are admitted free. Guests are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance online. All Riverbanks members are eligible to receive one free visit with a valid membership and picture ID; guest passes will not be accepted.

Snowville
Opening for its eighth season at EdVenture, Snowville is a winter playscape for children and the young at heart where every day is a snow day! Children can climb Mount EdVerest, explore an ice cave, and even tube down Sled Hill, a 25 ft. long slippery slope sure to give thrills to all. Santa is coming to EdVenture! All families are invited to enjoy this holiday event on December 5, 12 and 19!
Visit with the Snow Princess while you wait your turn to sit with Santa and tell him all of your Christmas wishes. While he’s making his list and checking it twice, we’ll snap a photo with you and the jolly old elf! Santa’s helpers will be on hand to help you decorate a gingerbread cookie or do some holiday crafting that will get your Christmas spirit singing! This special yuletide celebration is FREE with museum admission. Photo packages will be available for purchase.

EXPERIENCE THE MAGIC
From November 25th through December 31st, Saluda Shoals Park will come alive in a blaze of more than a million sparkling lights. Holiday Lights on the River features over 400 themed, animated light displays on a two-mile loop of the Park! Enjoy the Dazzling Dancing Forest with its dancing, lighted trees synchronized to classical and whimsical holiday music. See the three dimensional Victorian Village, Old Man Winter, the holiday classic Twelve Days of Christmas and so much more, all in sparkling lights. Take a stroll along the boardwalk through the Wetland Wonderland Walking Trail and watch nature com...e to life in sparkling lights. Take a hayride to the boardwalk for $1 per person or walk along the new trail to the Wetland and enjoy a laser light show and the Deck the Doors Holiday door display along the way. Holiday Lights admission applies. (To submit a door for the display, please complete the Deck the Doors application.)
Get ready for the slide of your life on the Winter Wonder Ride at Holiday Lights on the River. Zip through a series of lighted arches and experience downhill tubing without the snow on this 125 foot, exciting, fun-packed family ride. Tubes are provided. The Winter Wonder Ride is suitable for children and adults 42" and taller. If you are under the age of (4) you must be accompanied by your parents or guardian. Fee: $2 per slide with Holiday Lights admission or $10 for and all you can slide pass. The Winter Wonder Ride is open nightly (except Thanksgiving and Christmas) from 6-10 p.m.
Holiday Lights Activities
Enjoy fun-filled evenings of family activities every night of Holiday Lights on the River. Take a ride on the Red-Nose Express Hayride to the Wetland Walking Trail or ride the Saluda Shoals Choo-Choo through the lights. There will be concessions, crafts to make & take home, Santa's Claus'et Gift Shop, and roasting marshmallows. Santa will be visiting from December 11th to December 23rd. Nominal fees ($1-$5) for concessions and activities apply.
